“Temperance is moderation in the things that are good and total abstinence from the things that are foul.” ~ Frances E. Willard
Temperance – Moderation in action, thought, or feeling : RESTRAINT Habitual moderation in the indulgence of the appetites or passions.
Moderation is a very powerful life principle. In ancient Greece, the temple of Apollo at Delphi bore the inscription Meden Agan – ‘Nothing in excess’. Doing something “in moderation” means not doing it excessively. However, even temperance and moderation can be taken to extremes. And leaves you feeling like you are walking on egg shells. Too much temperance can lead to lack of control and indecision. Because, you become to scared to take action on anything – for fear of over indulgence.
Your life is meant to be joyous, all things are at your disposal, and you should enjoy all that the universe has to offer – but don’t over do it! The perfect rule of thumb is to ‘…pray about everything, and worry about nothing’. Remember, the earth is the Lords – and the fullnest thereof…and nothing is to be refused if its sanctified by the word of God and prayer!
That is my take on it ….but, what do you think?
