Our Preventive Maintenance Plan

Life doesn’t happen to us – life happens through us. Most of what happens in our life could have been prevented. Nothing happens just “all of the sudden” — there are signs along the way that tell us, that this person is no good for us; but we try to make it work and stick it out anyway. That the foods we crave might not be a good option for our health; but we eat them anyway.

Again (and this is worth repeating) there’s no such thing as “…all of the sudden” or “out of the blue”…”out of nowhere…” etc. — NOTHING happens Suddenly. There is ALWAYS a sign, warning or indicator that s person, situation or thing is – the way that is is. However, because many of us are distracted, we don’t play close enough attention to them.

The check engine light comes on before a vehicle stops operating; and the low fuel light will illuminate when you’re low on gas. So many times we disregard these signs, thinking we can get by until the next tune up, or we make it few more exists before we refuel. For the most part we do get away or get by it — but why leave it to “chance”?!

We shouldn’t wait until our car breaks completely down, before we have to have it towed to the mechanic – or wait until we’re completely out of gas before we put gas in our cars. Neither should we wait until things, and circumstances become completely “bad” – before we pray. Praying without ceasing is preventive maintenance for our Souls. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV) – Pray without ceasing / Luke 18:1 (AMP) – Now Jesus was telling the disciples a parable to make the point that at all times they ought to pray and not give up and lose heart

Prayer maintains our connection to God as our Source. So it is vital that this becomes a daily habit. Now I’m not here to tell you what or how to pray: For instance, affirmations are a form of prayer, meditations are a form of prayer, and the “greatest” (in my opinion) form of prayer is that of praise! — My only advice is that you do, what resonates with you; and that you do this often!

In this way, prayer doesn’t become a “quick fix” or some type of manipulation to get God to do something on our behalf. If we make prayer habitual, it will become our lifestyle, and it is in this lifestyle that prevents not only our Soul from breaking down — but stops “bad” things for happening in the first place.

Harmony within Indwelling Presence

WEEK 7: The Kingdom!

Day 45: May 18-19, 2015 – New Moon                   {Psalm 112:1-10}

Today is the energy of Compassion in Nobility. Jacob was considered one of the most complete beings that walked this earth. He knew when to be merciful and when to apply judgment. Check yourself today – are you delicate when you should be definite or judgmental when you should be gentle?

NOTE: Don’t forget that tonight is the New Moon of Gemini. Chodesh Tov (Good Month)!

~Karen Berg

Today is Rosh Chodesh Sivan, the New Moon. Each new moon represents potential, hope, expectation. We are getting close to the fruition of the Omer period, anticipating that which will come on Shavuot. Each year, each month, each week, day and moment is full of revelation. Our job is to be open to see it, honor it, receive it…and then pass it on. Today, we particularly focus on harmony–the complex interplay between individual notes (or lives), which, together, form something completely new and interesting as a result of the interaction. We hold many often conflicting ideas, values and interests simultaneously–the challenge is to recognize the underlying harmony not to be distracted by the apparent disagreements.

Scripture Verses For Day 45:

Psalm 81 (ESV)

1 Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob!

2 Raise a song; sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp.
3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day.
4 For it is a statute for Israel, a rule of the God of Jacob.
5 He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt.
I hear a language I had not known:
6 “I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket.
7 In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder;
I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
9 There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god.
10 I am the Lord your God,who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 “But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me.
12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels.
13 Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes.
15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever.
16 But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

Ephesians 6:10-13 (KJV)

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Discipline & Discernment within Foundation

WEEK 6: Correcting Our Foundation

Day 37: Original Post: May 10-11, 2015                  {Read Psalm 95:1-7}
Today is the energy of Discipline in Bonding. Sometimes it is more difficult to be right than to be wrong, harder to be cruel than to be kind. Today, set some boundaries. As hard as it seems, set them with human dignity and like water the Light will find its level.
~Karen Berg

Discernment of proper actions is necessary in building anything that will last. The difference between a long-lasting rock wall and a pile of rubble is in the accurate selection and placement of stones and meticulous application of mortar. This is also true in our lives: using careful discernment we can build the foundation for a long-lasting relationship, a robust congregation or a sturdy organization.

When we go through long periods of training, we are aiming for excellence. We examine what needs to improve, set goals, gather our determination and take aim. This process, whether sports or professional skills, music or accounting, is very similar. Discernment applied well, leads to developing a strong foundation upon which a solid future can stand!

Loving-Kindness Within Foundation

WEEK 6: Correcting Our Foundation

Day 36: Original Post: May 9-10, 2015  {Read Psalm 93:12-23}
Today is the energy of Loving-kindness in Bonding. For today, be a channel of mercy, kindness and love for someone who you know needs guidance. Your actions below will activate abundance from above.

~Karen Berg

Tonight we are entering Week 6, which means we only have two weeks left. As we enter this Mother’s Day Weekend let’s all keep pushing to make small changes each day. It’s been a hard, but the promise of the “Holy Ghost” is well worth it!

Jewish tradition maintains that at all times there are 36 especially righteous people in the world, and that were it not for them, the world would come to an end. Of course, since we don’t know who these people are, it is a good practice to consider each person you meet as one of them. Perhaps the grumpy check-out person at the supermarket is really holding up the world. It may be that your child’s baseball coach, or the librarian, or the teenager hanging out on the corner is one of those special thirty six. It might be your rabbi, your grandchild, or even you. If we treated each person we encountered that way, we could transform the world.

Endless lovingkindness is holding up the foundation of the world today. Celebrate that fact by adding your own unique dose of demonstrating compassion and caring today.

Indwelling Presence within Humility!

WEEK 5: True Greatness: Making Ourselves Small Giving Glory To GOoD!

Day 35, Original Post: May 8-9, 2015               {Read Psalm 93:1-5}
Today is the energy of Nobility in Humility. One day a man called out a slanderous comment to King David. As his guards moved to put the man in his place, King David said, “Leave him be, if he is saying this to me then I am meant to hear it.” The greatest measure of humility is knowing that the Creator is the voice behind everything we hear. Today listen to what the Creator is telling you.

~Karen Berg

Nobility is sometimes translated as ’sovereignty’. I think of sovereignty as a quality of a wise, guiding leader, not of an autocratic demagogue. Would that all Kings and Queens guided their people that way!!!

Today, we recognize that Divine Guidance is an essential part of all the splendor in the Universe. Consider the latest discoveries in astronomy — dark matter, beautifully colored rotating galaxies, ancient light reaching us. The Psalms are full of these kind of images….read a few today!

True Friendship: Bonding in Humility

WEEK 5: True Greatness: Making Ourselves Small Giving Glory To GOoD!

Day 34                  {Read Psalm 78:56-72}
Today is the energy of Bonding in Humility. True friendship is a gift and a wonderful tool to maintain humility. Focus on building a true friendship — knock gently on another’s heart and be grateful for the chance to look inside. Friendship is respectful, so allow him or her to be themselves.

~Karen Berg

Foundation within Splendor

The foundations of our lives are built on our cumulative experience and the knowledge we have gathered along the way. We are all several ’selves’– our most private self of inner thoughts and responses, our ‘family self’, our ‘friend self’, the self we display at work, in the neighborhood or at public events. Each is a response to a different set of expectations, yet each is also based on a Foundational Self–the one that is our ‘bottom line’ of ethical behavior, of automatic caring and of our deepest loves. Today we remember that underpinning of all of ourselves!

Lag B’Omer: Humility within Humility

WEEK 5: True Greatness: Making Ourselves Small Giving Glory To GOoD!

Day 33, – Lag B’Omer                  {Read Psalm 78:40-55}
Today is the energy of Humility in Humility. Prayer is a way for us to acknowledge the Creator and remember that we are not entitled to anything we have. We take many of the gifts the Creator has given us for granted — we feel we are entitled to walk, to talk, to see, to hear. Today pray for the ability to acknowledge that everything is a gift from the Creator.

~Karen Berg

Splendor within Splendor

Shavua Tov! Today is Lag B’Omer, the special holiday that is celebrated on the 33rd day of the counting toward revelation. We can find many explanations for the holiday, but I want to focus on how it is marked today – with picnics and outdoor events. We celebrate the diversity of nature as evidence of the splendor in our world. Appreciation implies responsibility. Today, this means responsibility for preserving the diversity of nature so that future generations will be able to appreciate it. Climate change is real. In Israel, Lag b’Omer picnics are usually accompanied by campfires– but this year wildfires are raging. In other locations, lovely picnic groves have become surrounded by dying vegetation. We can, appropriately, look at Lag b’Omer as a call to environmental action.

Rav Kook says: “The whole is constituted of numberless particulars, particular individuals and particular communities…The whole cannot achieve its highest fulfillment except through the perfection of its particular individuals, and the particular communities, whether large of small, of which it is constituted.”

Communities of plants, insects, mammals, trees and humans all count as part of the splendor we celebrate today.

Endurance within Splendor

WEEK 5: True Greatness: Making Ourselves Small Giving Glory To GOoD!

Day 32, Original Post: May 5-6, 2015 {Read Psalm 78:32-39}
Today is the energy of Endurance in Humility. Think of something that will remind you of your smallness. Maybe it is an affirmation of how grand the universe is, or how perfect a flower is, something that is personal for you, that you can use every day for the next year to remind you that in relation to God we are but a speck.

~Karen Berg

God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and beyond any comprehension or comparison. So it should be an easy “task” to humble ourselves under “Him” (anthropomorphically speaking) – however, our EGO will not allow us to take on the wardrobe of humility. As we humble ourselves, that is when we truly worship God.

Total trust in God is the epitome of Humility. Regardless of what’s going on in our lives Endurance in Humility is knowing that God is the sole provider instead of ourselves.

Today we celebrate our “smallness” within the Greatness of the Almighty God! Knowing that as it says in James 4:10 that if we humble ourselves in the presence of the Lord; He will allow us to experience “high” positions.

WEEK 5: True Greatness: Making Ourselves Small Giving Glory To GOoD!

Day 31, Original Post: May 4-5, 2015               {Read Psalm 78:17-31}
Today is the energy of Compassion in Humility. There is always a reason why people are the way they are. When you see someone behaving badly, there is a reason, and if you walked in their shoes you might be behaving just the way they are. Just for today, walk in the other person’s shoes.

~Karen Berg

The multitude of individual ‘bits’ of beauty are necessary to produce overall splendor. The notes and rhythmic signatures in written music are simple instructions, yet combined and performed, a symphony result. Smiles between strangers can be meaningless by themselves, but combined, can spread joy across a room, or a city.

Today we celebrate the tiny miracles that add up in our world. When we aware of them, we can help spread their effect, contributing to a better world!

Discernment within Splendor

WEEK 5: True Greatness: Making Ourselves Small Giving Glory To GOoD!

Day 30, Original Post: May 3-4, 2015               {Read Psalm 78:1-16}
Today is the energy of Discipline in Humility. It is our nature to feel that we are right, that only we understand and that no one else sees what we see. Today really know and remember that what we understand and see is very limited and only 1% of reality. There is a bigger picture out there that we don’t see.

~Karen Berg

Discernment is necessary when presented with a wide array of choice. I have been in New York City for the past few days, where there is an overwhelming variety of choices for just about everything! A splendid smorgasbord, but one that could result in paralysis unless it were possible to make choices. We are reminded today that we always have a wide variety of choices available, whether we are in a large city, in a small village or confined to a small, single room. It takes thoughtful, deliberate strength to analyze options and make decisions. It is important to examine any situation in small enough portions to allow us to appreciate the diversity and not be overwhelmed by it.
