“Each act of true sharing breaks down the barriers of our Desire to Receive for the Self Alone, and liberates the infinitely deeper and richer experience of sharing that is hidden within us.” ~Michael Berg
Earth Day is to be celebrated simply because it is the “one” day that all of humanity contributes in the protection of our environment. It is also a day that we share in demonstrating “peace” with each other. This is a good thing. However, how many of us pratice this on a daily basis? If the calander date didn’t change to 4-22… how many of us would actually consider the state of our planet – and the people that live herein?
In order for us to bring even more Light, Love and Peace into this Earthly world then we MUST perform acts of sharing – that force us to go outside of our comfort zones. When we do this, we are doing our true spiritual work.
By challenging ourselves, to share in ways that are uncomfortable, we are building our spiritual muscles. Uncomfortable sharing is transformative. Because, it goes beyond the activity of just planting a tree, volunteering at a homeless shelter or even sharing things that come naturally to us, or make us feel good. These types of sharing are easy and might even bring us joy and contentment. After we perform the “easy” type of sharing, we want to do it again. We get applauded for recognizing Earth Day – and in this sense, we feel good about ourselves.
But, how many of us (and this take brutal honesty) – would share with others even though they didn’t like or agree with us? How many of us share with others in order to get recognition in return? Do we become upset or angry after we share – and it is not reciprocated with even a “Thank You”?! How many of us make it a conscious effort to car pool, for the sole purpose creating a little less carbon in the environment? Please, don’t get me wrong, any and all types of sharing and reconigtion is good – whether on Earth Day – or not. But, the point I’m attempting to drive home is this:
To Truly Make An Impact On Earth – Our ACTIONS of Sharing MUST Be Marked By Significance!
You see, we are all born with the Desire to Receive for the Self Alone – call it by any name you wish — i.e. The Devil, Satan, or our Ego — the truth is, Self-Love is imbedded in our DNA. Our job on this Earth (whether in this life or previous lifetimes) is to resist the urge to Receive for our Self Alone – and allow the Godly Desire to Receive for the Sake of Sharing with Others and Our Environment.
To make sure that we are truly honoring one another and the Earth – we should ask ourselves(and often),“Does this activity go against my Ego?” With this evaluation, we can then engage ourselves with acts of sharing that are a bit more challenging to our Nature. Yes! It is hard work to transform our Ego Nature, and find our true purpose for living on Earth — but the rewards far outweigh the spiritual toil and exercise!!
Michael Berg explains, “When you’re countering the inertia of your everyday nature, when you’re going against the reflex of your own immediate gratification, you are moving toward real spiritual growth and transformation.”
He further explains, that, “Each act of true sharing breaks down the barriers of our Desire to Receive for the Self Alone, and liberates the infinitely deeper and richer experience of sharing that is hidden within us.”
This is not true for only ourselves, but for every Earthling!
