Our Preventive Maintenance Plan

Life doesn’t happen to us – life happens through us. Most of what happens in our life could have been prevented. Nothing happens just “all of the sudden” — there are signs along the way that tell us, that this person is no good for us; but we try to make it work and stick it out anyway. That the foods we crave might not be a good option for our health; but we eat them anyway.

Again (and this is worth repeating) there’s no such thing as “…all of the sudden” or “out of the blue”…”out of nowhere…” etc. — NOTHING happens Suddenly. There is ALWAYS a sign, warning or indicator that s person, situation or thing is – the way that is is. However, because many of us are distracted, we don’t play close enough attention to them.

The check engine light comes on before a vehicle stops operating; and the low fuel light will illuminate when you’re low on gas. So many times we disregard these signs, thinking we can get by until the next tune up, or we make it few more exists before we refuel. For the most part we do get away or get by it — but why leave it to “chance”?!

We shouldn’t wait until our car breaks completely down, before we have to have it towed to the mechanic – or wait until we’re completely out of gas before we put gas in our cars. Neither should we wait until things, and circumstances become completely “bad” – before we pray. Praying without ceasing is preventive maintenance for our Souls. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV) – Pray without ceasing / Luke 18:1 (AMP) – Now Jesus was telling the disciples a parable to make the point that at all times they ought to pray and not give up and lose heart

Prayer maintains our connection to God as our Source. So it is vital that this becomes a daily habit. Now I’m not here to tell you what or how to pray: For instance, affirmations are a form of prayer, meditations are a form of prayer, and the “greatest” (in my opinion) form of prayer is that of praise! — My only advice is that you do, what resonates with you; and that you do this often!

In this way, prayer doesn’t become a “quick fix” or some type of manipulation to get God to do something on our behalf. If we make prayer habitual, it will become our lifestyle, and it is in this lifestyle that prevents not only our Soul from breaking down — but stops “bad” things for happening in the first place.

I AM: The Light of the World!

The Hebrews prophets, with their perfect knowledge of the Supreme Law, always related outward events to inward thought…The knowledge of the causal power of thought is the basis of all their prophecies, as it is the basis of all real wisdom and power. ~James Allen

YOUR TRUE SENSE OF SELF: Marianne Williams {The Law of Divine Compensation}

On the mortal plane, none of us are perfect all the time. But on the spiritual plane, all of us are perfect all the time. Who we really are – perfect creations of God, unchangeable and unlimited, none of us more or less brilliant than anyone else – is the most positive self-concept possible. To self-identify according to your spiritual rather than material reality is enlightenment.

From this perspective, you see that you are the light. No thought or condition of darkness – that is, lovelessness in your own mind or in anyone else’s – has any bearing whatsoever on the truth of who you are or what the universe has planned for you. Your past, your mistakes, other people’s opinions about you, even your failures do not in any way limit who you are or what is possible for you now….All of us carry the mark of God, yet we carry that mark as one. No one has any more or less capacity than anyone else to be used as a conduit for the genius that pours forth constantly from the Mind of God.

This genius pours into us as one, but is accepted by us separately. God’s greatness is a gift that is offered to all of us, but it’s our choice whether or not to receive it. We lack faith in what exists within us because we lack faith in Who exists within us. You are a child of God, carrying the eternal mark of your perfect Source. You are naturally entitled to miracles because love is what you are. This is not an arrogant appraisal of the ego, but rather a humble acceptance of God’s truth. You just happen to have within you the eternal power of the universe.

—> Matthew 5:14-16 (Complete Jewish Bible)

14 “You are light for the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Likewise, when people light a lamp, they don’t cover it with a bowl but put it on a lampstand, so that it shines for everyone in the house.

16 In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they may see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.

—> John 8:12 (English Standard Version) – Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I AM the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

—> 1 John 1:5-6 (KJV)

5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

Armed with this incredible piece, we can proclaim and affirm as Jesus did:
“I AM The Light of The World” and then begin to live and operate this Divine Truth as an ACTION in our lives!

Bring Forth Fruit That Is Meet

As of late, I’ve found myself having a desire to feel better and to add to the quality of my life. For this to take place, it is imperative that I get back in shape. Believe it or not, there was a time in my life, where I had less than 5% body fat, ran (not jogged) at least 3 miles every day, and still, had plenty of energy to go to work, plus do “everything else” I wanted to do! 😉

However, after a very long hiatus of many, many years of inactivity (other than the once a year personal tradition of jogging/walking the Peachtree Road Race) – I now, find myself gasping for air after walking only a few blocks! To make matters worse, this only a couple times a week! There was a time when I could eat and drink anything I wanted – and my metabolism would dissolve the intake very quickly! But, now my stomach is overlapping my beltline regardless of how healthy I eat!

I said all of that, just to say this: that I literally, have to “get in shape” in order to get back in shape! I know it sounds like an oxymoron – but, because I “let myself go” and didn’t maintain a healthy body; it’s almost as if I’m starting over from scratch.

This is probably, what John meant when he said, “bring forth fruit meet for repentance” {Matthew 3:8} Of course, as it is often said, “Timing is everything” {Ecclesiastes 3:13}; and during this season, in particular, God is “calling” for REPENTANCE! Not only as a nation – but individually as well.

Repentance is an opportunity to return back to God. To restore everything that was seemingly lost (both spiritually and materially). Repentance done in the “right way” will also remove those blockages, that hindered our connection to God – in the first place.  In this sense, repentance allows us the opportunity restore ourselves – from where we stand right now – there’s no “starting from scratch” or building ourselves up to where we “ought” to be!

Paradoxically, however, we must “get in shape spiritually” (bring forth fruit) in order to get back in shape – or in this sense – in order to bring about true and lasting repentance. Simply stated: we must get in shape, in order to get BACK in shape. What do I mean?

Well, it’s been said, that to repent means to change one’s mind. But, I say, that to repent means to change one’s State of Being (the innermost ACTION of our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs) — entirely! For this type of repentance to take place, we MUST change our mindset (bringing forth fruit) – so that our Soul and Spirit are united back with God (meet for repentance). Likewise, me walking a few blocks twice a week probably won’t get me back to where I used to be. However, it does prepare my mind and body to exert itself more…until such a time that I come to that place (bring forth fruit meet…).

For me, to even get back half-way — of where I desire to be physically; I must undergo a radical change in my mindset. I MUST prepare my mind so that my body will follow. I already know – where I desire to be – and what exactly what I’m attempting to get out of this process. Therefore, I must not look for an easy way out. I must consciously, and very deliberately examine what I eat and drink. And I MUST be more consistent in my vow to do so.

Likewise, the same attitude Spiritually MUST take place in order for us to REPENT! This, however, is not an easy process! Bringing forth the fruit of a changed mind and renewed Spirit – means embarking on a (seemingly dreadful) self-examination process. {2 Corinthians 13:5} This inward examination process includes (but not limited to):

  • Looking back over the course of this year and seeing how many people we offended (whether intentionally or not)!
  • Did we mistreat, or use anybody to fulfill our own selfish wants and desires?
  • Did we GIVE our tithes (not just in a typical sense – but did we feed or visit the “poor” or those in need)?
  • Were we disobedient to God’s direction for OUR lives (not someone else – remember my ACTION is King!)?
  • Were we impeccable with our word? Meaning, did we promise to do something and not follow through?

…or any other thing that comes to mind, that appears to separate us from our Creator!

But, please take note (and this is very important!): Even in during this season of self-examination, we still must do it cheerfully and with gratitude! {Psalm 100:2A} Real repentance is not in our tears, what we regret, or in feeling sorry for ourselves. Repentance is a season where we can become fully aware that we are and will always be ONE WITH GOD:

  • Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) – Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • Romans 8:38-39 (KJV)

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

True repentance means not seeking God’s Hand (what “He” can do for us) – but, seeking God’s Face (Being in “His” Presence); so we must be truthful with ourselves. {Psalm 101:7} God already knows the truth concerning us – so it is extremely vital that we be truthful with ourselves. For example, if I attempting to run a marathon – but can’t even walk a couple of blocks – then I drastically run the risk of – doing more harm than good. This is also the case, where the Spirit is concerned!

Just remember God didn’t move – it was us that changed. We neglected to exercise our spiritual muscles – and wonder why life – is not going as it should. The good news is, we can take as much “time” (for lack of a better term) – to bring forth fruit.

2 Peter 3:9 (NIV) – The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Just as in the physical sense, whipping our spiritual bodies back into shape is difficult at first, but the rewards far outweigh the struggle…we just have to keep at it..until as it says, in Psalm 16:11(English Standard Version): You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore!

Now, Let’s Get BACK To Where We Know We’re Supposed To BE!! REPENT –  but First, bring the right attitude!

See Yourself As GO[o]D Sees You: Know Your Worth!

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill.

In the room of 200, he asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?”

Hands started going up. He said, “I am going to give this $20 bill to one of you – but first, let me do this.”

He proceeded to crumple the 20 dollar note up. He then asked “who still wants it”?” Still, the hands were up in the air.

“Well,” he replied, “what if I do this?” He dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. “Now, who still wants it?”

Still, the hands went in the air.

“My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20!”

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless; but no matter what happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value.

Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by… WHO WE ARE!! But, more so than that, paradoxically, the more we esteem God, the more we will value ourselves! Not just who we are – but rather who we are IN GOD!!

So for today let’s affirm as it says in Psalm 139:14 (the Complete Jewish Bible Version):

I thank you because I AM awesomely made, wonderfully; your works are wonders — I know this very well.

Nobility Within Nobility!

WEEK 7: The Kingdom!

Day 49: May 22-23, 2015                    {Psalm 150 & RUTH}

Today is the energy of Nobility in Nobility. Take a moment and meditate on manifesting all the changes that you have undergone in the last 49 days. After Pesach, the Light that we received as a gift went into concealment to give us a chance to earn it back. On the eve before Shavuot, seal in your transformation. You are a new vessel, prepared to receive the Light of immortality; are you ready?

~Karen Berg

AWESOME WORK!!! WE MADE IT! The Torah teaches that the entire nation stood at Sinai to witness the giving of the Law. The rabbis teach that even future generations were present at Sinai. This represents the elevation of the Soul/Spirit…similar to the Day of Pentecost {Read Acts 2:1-21}!

Foundation within Indwelling Presence

WEEK 7: The Kingdom!

Day 48: May 21-22, 2015                    {Psalm 148:1-14}

Today is the energy of Bonding in Nobility. Joseph took responsibility for his process. To be a conduit of Light for others, there is no room for victim consciousness. Wash yourself clean of the injustices you feel others have done to you so you can jump into the bright future that awaits you. We’re almost there guys!

~Karen Berg

In building construction, the best foundations are often not the most rigid, but the ones that are designed to deal with changing soil and weather conditions. Our spiritual foundations need to have the same kind of resiliency, adaptability, flexibility to respond to the changing conditions of our inner landscapes. As we get VERY close to Pentecost, we realize that we have no idea what may be coming. All we can do, every day, actually, is to cultivate the kind of inner plasticity to ‘roll with the punches’ as difficulties arise, delight in good surprises when they come, and maintain our deep connection with the Source of All. This kind of foundation dwells deep within the Presence…and in each of us.

Splendor within Indwelling Presence

WEEK 7: The Kingdom!

Day 47: May 20-21, 2015                    {Psalm 130:1-8}

 Today is the energy of Humility in Nobility. Take inventory of the past 46 days. Hindsight is 20/20. Do you see the blessings and the growth? As we come to the end of this Omer, use this day to appreciate the ladder the Creator gave us to climb towards Him.

~Karen Berg

For many people, awe is the basis of our first spiritual experiences. Being amazed at a natural phenomenon is one accessible experience (tonight the clouds were illuminated by the setting sun, highlighted against the glowing mountains, for example). Feeling in touch with some larger reality, as at a birth or a death, is another. For others, it is the clarity that accompanies an intellectual realization. For still others, the sense of overcoming overwhelming odds and accomplishing a difficult task. In all these cases, we remember that there are many magnificent aspects of the Divine, each contributing, each facet magnifying and beautifying the Whole. Each of us is part of the splendor that is inextricably part of the Holy Presence, that One of which we are a part and which is a part of us. The prayer “Ayn od milvado”, loosely translated as “there is nothing except the Oneness” reminds us of the eternal unfolding in which we are honored to participate.

Endurance within Indwelling Presence

WEEK 7: The Kingdom!

Day 46: May 19-20, 2015 – New Moon                    {Psalm 128:1-6}

Today is the energy of Endurance in Nobility. Instead of feeling doubt when something “negative” happens, say to yourself, “I know I have done all I can to make this a positive experience. I have certainty that in the bigger picture this situation is positive.” When you do this, you give darkness no entry into the situation.

~Karen Berg

Having gotten this far on this daily practice is evidence of a certain kind of endurance, but it is just a hint of the kind of endurance we all need throughout our lives. One component of creating a new reality, or recognizing the new Reality which surrounds us daily, is patience.  An important component of endurance is patience.  The practice of meditation, is one of building the kind of internal patience needed to contribute to a world where Presence is not only present (which it is all the time) but a world where we are aware of that Presence.  The Hebrew word for meditation is Hitbonenut, based on the root word Boneh, which refers to building.

Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels.
13 Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes.

Loving-Kindness within Indwelling Presence

WEEK 7: The Kingdom!

Day 43: May 16-17, 2015                  {Psalm 106:1-5}

Today is the energy of Loving-kindness in Nobility. Like King David – who represents “The Kingdom” – a true King knows his job is to be in service of others not the other way around. Today, manifest your consciousness of service to others with actions.

~Karen Berg

Today we enter the final week of Counting the Omer for 2015! This seventh week is like Shabbat, a pause, an opportunity to reflect, refresh. We envision the world we desire and pray for, a world at peace. Lovingkindness flows into this final week, blending transcendent and immanent energies. We join our individual compassion with that of others, multiplying its power and bring that combined force into the Presence that dwells within us. What a force for the Good, for the Holy, for the Possible. Let us begin this final week of the Omer with enthusiasm and hope. We CAN change the world.

Indwelling Presence within Foundation

WEEK 6: Correcting Our Foundation

Day 42: May 15-16, 2015                  {Psalm 105:1-11}

Today is the energy of Nobility in Bonding. Today, live in the consciousness of abundance. I don’t mean go and spend money you don’t have, rather focus on seeing the outpouring in what you do. If you are very smart, that is abundance. If you have healing hands, that is abundance. If you are given the gift of gab, that too is abundance.

~Karen Berg

Shabbat Shalom! The Zohar says that if the world contains just one righteous person, that person sustains the world. Each of us has the opportunity to be that righteous person, to be the pillar that upholds the world. Remembering today that the Divine Presence is always within us, surrounding us, upholding us, inspiring us, we can find the inner motivation toward righteousness. We are part of a “Kingdom of Priests”; each of us is majestic, part of the Great Majesty. Today we treasure that inner Presence, allowing it to fortify our own foundations.
